UK Will Investigate Apple and Google’s Stranglehold’ in Web Surfing

According to results from a June consultation, the authority has released the results. They claim that web developers, cloud gaming service providers, and browser vendors have provided “substantial support.” They claim that the status quo has been limiting innovation and adding unnecessary costs to their businesses.

Apple didn’t immediately respond to a request to comment.

Developers complained that Apple’s restrictions made it difficult for them to create innovative apps for U.K. users and that they have to deal with bugs and glitches while creating webpages.

Sarah Cardell, interim chief executive of the CMA, stated in the release that the authority intends to use its power to address problems wherever it can.

She stated that many U.K. web developers and businesses feel they are being held back because of restrictions by Apple and Google. “We will investigate whether our concerns are valid and, if not, take steps to increase competition and innovation in these areas.”

A spokesperson for Google stated that Android gives users more apps and stores than any other mobile platform. It allows developers to select the browser engine that they prefer, which has made it the launchpad of millions of apps. We are committed to creating thriving platforms that empower developers and consumers.
