Research has shown that dogs’ facial muscles have more “fast-twitch,” muscle fibers than wolves. Scientists believe this allows dogs to communicate with their owners better.

These same researchers were involved in discovering that dogs possess a muscle just above their eyes. This makes their eyes appear larger and gives them that adorable “puppy dog eyes” look.

The study revealed that the muscle in wolves was not developed, suggesting that dogs may have evolved “puppy dog eyes” to manipulate humans.
