Snapchat Will Place Ads in Stories and Share the Earnings with Creators

Snapchat has made it easier for creators to make money on the app in recent years. Snapchat users see ads between their Stories and in the Discover section. But creators will now get a share of the Stories ad revenue.

This is just a few days after Snapchat indicated that its users preferred TikTok-esque content to Stories.

Snap CEO Evan Spiegel stated earlier this month to investors that users spend less time viewing Stories and more time watching content on Spotlight. Spotlight is Snapchat’s TikTok counterpart.

The company promised $1 million per day to encourage users to create vertical video content for Spotlight. Snapchat now claims it pays millions of dollars per month to creators who create top Spotlight videos. Snapchat introduced Spotlight Challenges last year. These are cash prizes that reward users who create top videos with specific lenses, sounds or topics. In 2021, the company paid more than $250 million to creators.
