Paul Haggis, a Filmmaker, Is Ordered to Pay $7.5 Million after Being Found Guilty of Sexual Assault in Which He Was Involved with a Former Publicist

A jury found Paul Haggis guilty in a case of sexual assault brought forward by a former publicist, who claimed that he raped her at a 2013 movie premiere. According to lawyers for Haggis and Breast, the jury ordered Haleigh Breest to pay at least $7.5million in damages to Haleigh Breest on Thursday. Breest filed the case under the New York City Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act.

Breest’s attorney, Ilann Maazel, said by telephone to CNN, “We are grateful.” We’re thankful. Today’s jury was meticulous and fair. We are proud of Haleigh and the #MeToo movement.”
