He was informed that he would need to have surgery to preserve the remaining tissue. After learning of the risks, he reportedly panicked and fled the hospital. He returned to the hospital a few days later. His urethra was reattached and he received a permanent catheter to allow him to properly urinate. After one day, the doctors advised him to leave the hospital. However, he returned two days later when his penis flesh started to erode.

The patient was then taken to the operating table for a second operation. 

Doctors removed the bacteria and fitted him with a second catheter. They also performed circumcision. Although the second surgery was successful, doctors said that the man’s penis still had a defect.

“This is an unusual but thankfully rare condition,” Dr. Rich Viney of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust told The Daily Mail. “… This could have been avoided if the patient was practicing good penile hygiene and washed his undersides regularly.
