In 2023, New Programs for Bridge Assistance Will Be in Effect

(BCN) – Two bridge assistance programs will be in effect beginning in 2023. They offer free crossings to eligible military veterans, and a waiver of penalty for low-income residents. All California toll bridges will be free for veterans with a vehicle plate that has a Congressional Medal of Honor or Disabled Veteran, Legion of Valor and Pearl Harbor Survivor designation.

According to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, this includes the Golden Gate Bridge as well as state-owned bridges such the Bay Bridge, Dumbarton Bridge, and Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. To be eligible for the toll waiver, veterans don’t need to have a FasTrak electronic payments system. However, those with one will need to carry their FasTrak along with them to any toll booths. FasTrak customer support can help residents request a Mylar bag at no cost by calling (877-229-8655).
