House Approves Bill To Limit Insulin Costs To $35 Per Month

Although the bill will benefit millions of Americans living with diabetes, it must be approved by at least 10 Republican senators to become law.

WASHINGTON — The House passed a bill to reduce insulin costs to $35 per month for the majority of Americans who depend on it. This raises hopes that Democrats can make at least one step towards fulfilling their promise to lower drug prices.

The bill received unanimous support from both Democrats and 12 Republicans. This is a rare bipartisan piece of policy legislation.

The bill must be signed into law by at least 10 Republican senators to avoid a filibuster. Although some lawmakers have expressed optimism about the possibility of such a coalition, few Republican senators have yet to publicly endorse the bill. Senator Susan Collins (Republican from Maine) has been working closely with Senator Jeanne Shaheen (Democrat from New Hampshire) on a larger bill regarding insulin prices.
