Health Department Announces New Appointments and Next Monkeypox Vaccine Allocation

Today, the Health Department announced that New York City will receive more JYNNEOS(tm). monkeypox vaccine. The federal government will deliver the next dose of vaccine, which is more than 14,500, later in this week. In the next few days, the Health Department will make public how this allocation will be distributed. They will prioritize equitable and fast delivery for New Yorkers. The city will also open approximately 2,500 appointments left over from the 6,000 dose allocation last week at New York City’s temporary vaccination clinics at the Central Harlem Sexual Health Clinic (223 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan), Chelsea Sexual Health Clinic (329 Ninth Avenue, Manhattan) and Corona Sexual Health Clinic (334-33 Junction Boulevard in Queens).

The appointments include 1,250 appointments that are available online and 1,250 appointments via direct referrals from New Yorkers who are more at-risk or vulnerable. Appointments will open at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, with a scheduling link available through the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s website at: nyc.gov/health/monkeypox.

Dr. Ashwin Vasan , Health Commissioner, said that he commends New Yorkers for taking control of their health and getting vaccinated. We know vaccine supplies are scarce and that appointments can be difficult. We are working with community-based organisations to ensure an equitable approach, and we are working with federal partners in order to secure more vaccines soon. We urge New Yorkers to be cautious as we increase vaccination. If you feel unwell, stay home, especially if your symptoms are severe.

New Yorkers will now have access to almost 7,000 monkeypox vaccines since June 23, with the opening of appointments on July 12. This includes the 1,000 appointments that were opened on June 23. The web portal has seen 2,400 additional appointments booked since July 6. Direct referrals from community-based partners and providers are distributing 1,650 additional appointments, with 1,250 new referrals added this week. Tomorrow the remaining 1,250 appointments can be booked online through the portal. The city will distribute 620 doses to people who have been confirmed or suspected of having monkeypox. This was determined by the Health Department’s contact tracing efforts.
