First in the U.S. Apple Store workers agree to Union

Amazon, Apple and other companies have been accused of “union busting”.

Apple Store employees in New York stated this year that managers took some workers aside and gave a speech on the dangers of unionization. Managers warned workers that unionization could result in losing benefits, such as the opportunity to work for Apple’s corporate headquarters.

Apple, which boasts more than 270 retail outlets in the country, made reference to a comment it had previously made regarding the unionizing efforts.

Lipton stated that “We are blessed to have amazing retail team members” and that Apple values everything they contribute to the company. We are happy to offer excellent compensation and benefits for both full-time and part-time employees, including tuition reimbursement, health care, tuition reimbursement and new parental leave. There are also annual stock grants and other benefits.

According to Towson workers, forming a union will allow them to have a voice at the table regarding scheduling, pay, safety measures, and other issues. Some workers felt that Apple was too slow to raise pay. They also suggested that individual stores should have more control over scheduling and not let the corporate office.

“I had always felt that I was giving away more value that I am being paid for. That’s why covid helped me to unpack it,” Jarboe, an Apple employee and union organizer, said to The Post.

“For tonight, let’s celebrate. Chaya Barrett, a Towson employee, said that they enjoy it. “Then, we will come together and work out how we can get a negotiating team. We want everyone to participate in these negotiations, even those who voted against.
