Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg Firing 11,000 after Company Spends $15B on Metaverse

Rumors circulated this week and it has been confirmed that Meta, the owner and operator of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, is firing 13 percent of its employees, leaving around 11,000 people out of work. This follows the staggering $15 billion spent by the company on its “metaverse” project.

The confirmation was made public in a Meta site post. Zuckerberg sent a message to his employees with a resigned tone. “Today, I’m sharing the most difficult changes that we’ve made in Meta’s history,” Zuckerberg began. He continued, “I’ve decided to reduce the size of my team by approximately 13% and let more than 11,000 of my talented employees go.”
