Biden Signs into Law the Quantum Computing Cybersecurity Bill

On Wednesday, President Biden signed legislation encouraging federal agencies to adopt technology that can be decrypted by quantum computing.

After companion legislation was passed in July, the Quantum Computing Cybersecurity Preparedness Act moved through the Senate . Sens. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.

This legislation was passed amid concerns that significant leaps in quantum technology could be made by hostile countries, including China. These developments could make it possible for existing forms of secure encryption, such as those used to protect passwords, to be cracked more quickly.
